Se Mudando is changing the way Brazilian society deals with the social challenge of homelessness.
We exist to have lasting impact on people's lives, bringing them back into society through our programme based on Housing First.
A methodology with proven results abroad: more effective at reintegration and less costly to the State than the strategies currently used in Brazil.
Mission, values and vision

Our history
2018
The beginning, at UFSCar
The Institute is born in São Carlos, inside the university, out of a group's unease with how the country treats people experiencing homelessness.
2020
The first supported family
In November, the first family enters the Rapid Re-Housing programme. They have been with us ever since.
2021
The Opening Doors programme begins
The Institute formally adopts the Housing First methodology and builds the programme that would become its central work.
2025
The documentation goes public
We publish the programme's full documentation, so that other organisations can adapt the method in their own cities.
The people behind it
Support for the people in the programme is delivered by volunteers and by professionals from our partner public services. No payroll eats into donations: that is a deliberate choice, and it is what lets almost every donated real reach the person being supported.
Become a volunteerWho we walk with
The programme only works alongside the public network of São Carlos, mainly Centro POP, CAPS AD and CREAS, which make most of the referrals and in some cases follow the cases together with our team.
Propose a partnershipSupporting one person costs on average R$1,000.00 per month. That is what stands between someone and a return to the street.
