Before you decide
Where does my money go?
Almost all of it goes directly to the person being supported: rent, food allowance, and medication the public health system does not supply. The people doing the follow-up are volunteers or already employed by one of our partner public services, so no payroll eats into your donation. The Institute only covers transport to the person's home on visit days.
Why give every month instead of once?
Because the decision to open a new case depends on having predictable cash for the months ahead, not just the first one. A one-off donation genuinely helps. A recurring donation, however small, is what lets us commit to keeping someone housed for an open-ended period, which is the essence of the method.
How do I know it is working?
We publish periodic transparency reports with the accounts and case progress, along with the full methodology documentation. Fifteen people have been through the programme since 2021 and nine are still supported. We also report openly on the cases that were interrupted and why.
Is the Institute properly registered?
Yes. Instituto Se Mudando is a private non-profit association, registered under Brazilian company number (CNPJ) 55.103.698/0001-62, dedicated exclusively to supporting people experiencing homelessness.
